Well hello there...
Welcome to Magee Original Artwork! I'm Jade Magee, an artist based in Northern Ireland who works under the pillars of compassion and connection!
I graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University in 2012 and my early career saw me travelling as far as India and the States as well as all over the UK as a photographer. Alongside my creative career, I have spent many years working in the charity sector, advocating for adults and children with additional needs. Lockdown saw me picking up my paintbrushes again and after discovering water mixable oils for the first time, painting gave me an outlet for what was a particularly tricky season of life to navigate!
I decided to work on improving my portraiture, delighting in the blending ability of the medium, creating realistic and thoughtful renditions of my subjects. Although I enjoy pet portraiture, landscapes and florals, I keep coming back to people! Their stories and experiences are what move my heart, and I see my work as a commentary of the human experience. Recently I have asked my sitters to engage with me further through therapeutic portrait sittings. I plan to elaborate more on this on my website and socials, but for now all I can say is that I am working to combine my passion for painting with my heart for helping people!
Community is hugely important to me and I love to connect with and encourage other artists, young and old! As well as being a member of the SAA, I am looking to help develop support and encouragement for Artists in Mid Ulster and those who live rurally.
